What is a stepper motor?


A Stepper Motor or a step motor is a brushless, synchronous motor which divides a full rotation into a number of steps. 

The following information has been derived from using the 3308 stepper motor connected to a 1063 - PhidgetStepper Bipolar 1-Motor controller.

Stepper motor ‘voltage’ is an often confusing subject. Many motor drivers use widely varying bus voltages to operate stepper motors. In fact, identical stepper motors can be (and commonly are) operated at greatly different voltages in different systems. How can the same motor be run at different voltages? How does the bus voltage impact the stepper motor’s performance?

In this tutorial I will use a Raspberry Pi to drive a Phidgets InterfaceKit 888.
You’ll need:

RASPBERRY-PI - SBC, MODEL B+, 512M

MIcroSD Card 8GB Class 10

In this tutorial we will use a Raspberry pi with a Phidgets Temperature Sensor connected to a thermocouple.

The data will be displayed in a scrolling graph in real time.

In this tutorial we will create an environment monitoring system. Whenever a person enters the room the system will send us an email.

To achieve it we will use:

In the last tutorial, we used the Phidgets SBC for a small alarm system, which detects the presence of a person and sent us an e-mail.
In this tutorial the SBC will send us a message on WhatsApp instead of an e-mail.

In the previous tutorial, we have prepared the PhidgetSBC to send a WhatsApp message when the state of a sensor changes.
In this tutorial we ask the status of the sensors via a WhatsApp message, for example, we may ask for the value of temperature and humidity of the apartment.

In this tutorial, we will use an RFID tag reader writer with Raspberry.

The abbreviation RFID stands for Radio Frequency IDentification, as the name suggests is a system for the identification of objects, people or animals by means of radio frequency.

The basic system requires a reader and a tag or transponder, previously programmed to contain the information.

The tags can be supplied (Tag Active) or not (Passive Tag), in this guide we will use passive tags.

When the reader and the tag are near, the tag is activated and returns his information.

This tutorial will describe how to install and set up a light web server on Raspberry Pi that supports PHP and MySql.

Apache is the most widely used server, but Raspberry has limited resources so it is better to opt for a system that uses less resources.

There are many alternatives to Apache, in this tutorial we chose nginx.
